Sakurai Shrine in Itoshima’s north, established in the early Edo period by Fukuoka Domain’s Tadayuki Kuroda, features a unique layout with Iwato-gu over an ancient tomb, and aligned main and worship halls, and a tower gate. Built in 1632, the main hall is adorned with intricate joinery and colorful sculptures. It’s recognized as a National Important Cultural Property, with historical drawings and ridgepole tags.
