Itoshima Int’l Art Festival 2025 Itoshima Arts Farm

START: Oct 18, 2025 END: Oct 26, 2025

Held every two years in the Nijō area of Itoshima City—an area nestled between wooded hills and vast farmland, rich in the quintessential landscapes of Kyushu—the Itoshima International Art Festival returns in 2025 with the theme “Festival of Decomposition.” Visitors can walk through villages and fields scattered with artworks, tracing the ideas behind each piece and discovering new landscapes created through the fusion of contemporary art and the scenery of Itoshima.
A market featuring organic food vendors, including bento stands, will be held at the local landmark Masue Gonkurō Inari Shrine. Organized by Studio Kura, which operates an artist-in-residence program in Itoshima, the festival brings together around 40 artists from Japan and abroad for exhibitions, dance and music performances, film screenings, and more.

This year’s featured talk guest is historian Tatsushi Fujihara, author of The Philosophy of Decomposition, who will lead a Japanese-language session exploring the concept of “decomposition” in art. Guest artist Termites Studio, based on Shōdoshima in Kagawa Prefecture, will present a new work reflecting themes of coexistence in Itoshima.
