Held every two years in the Nijo district of Itoshima City—a region framed by rolling hills and expansive farmlands that capture the quintessential scenery of Kyushu—the Itoshima International Art Festival offers a unique intersection of nature and contemporary art. This year’s theme is “Community/Co-Existence.” As you stroll through the local villages and fields, you will encounter various art installations. These works not only embody the artistic philosophies of their creators but also form a new landscape where the beauty of Itoshima and modern art seamlessly merge.
One of the regional landmarks, Masue Gonkuro Inari, will host a marché featuring six vendors offering organic foods and drinks. Centered around Studio Kura, which provides an Artist-in-Residence program in Itoshima, the festival will showcase art exhibits, dance, music, and screenings presented by more than 25 participating artists from both Japan and abroad.
The guest artist this time is Aki Nagasaka, a member of the Creative Media Department at City University of Hong Kong and an educator in the Faculty of Art at Hiroshima City University. She will present works that reflect her past activities and research in Itoshima.
