Artistation Itoshima is an art gallery in front of JR Chikuzen-Maebaru Station that opened in September 2021. The owner, who runs an advertising agency and store display business, wanted to “create a place where many people can see the works of artists with roots in various places around Kyushu.” Acrylic paintings by Chihiro Miyata, a landscape painter from Itoshima, and other art works including ceramics, woodwork, glasswork and leather goods from all corners of Kyushu are on display and available for purchase.
The works on display are all created by artists with whom the owner and his wife have developed connections with. They are accompanied by detailed explanations and videos of their respective creative processes, which aim to convey the authenticity of the artists behind the works. Occasionally, the gallery holds hands-on events with the artists, which give visitors a chance to get up close and personal with the artists’ art and their thought processes.
There is also an in-house cafe where customers can enjoy coffee, tea and other drinks as well as sweets.
