Designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Itoshima City, this traditional event at Yodogawa Ten Shrine is held to pray for a bountiful harvest and protection from misfortune. After a Shinto ceremony, parishioners take turns shooting handmade arrows at targets representing calamity in the “Momote” ritual. The event continues with the humorous “Omeshikurai” feast: rice with soup and three side dishes is served on a raised tray, with the first bowl a standard portion and subsequent servings piled high. The playful exchange between servers and diners fills the venue with laughter, reflecting a sincere wish for health and plentiful food in the year ahead.
