And you\u2019d be absolutely right! In a recent post, I introduced nearly a dozen places to rent bicycles of all sizes and styles from locations all around Itoshima. But the big question is\u2014where to ride?<\/p>\n<p>To answer that, I\u2019ve created an introductory cycling loop that riders of all abilities can enjoy safely and comfortably while taking in some of Itoshima\u2019s most beautiful scenery.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2206\" src=\"https:\/\/itoshima-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/itn_rental-cycle_2024_WEB-027.jpeg\" alt=\"Exploring Itoshima by Bicycle: The Complete Guide to Rental Bikes\" width=\"1400\" height=\"1050\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itoshima-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/itn_rental-cycle_2024_WEB-027.jpeg 1400w, https:\/\/itoshima-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/itn_rental-cycle_2024_WEB-027-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/itoshima-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/itn_rental-cycle_2024_WEB-027-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/itoshima-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/itn_rental-cycle_2024_WEB-027-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This route forms a loop, starting at Chikuzen-Maebaru Station, where the Itoshima Tourist Information Center has rental bicycles available. Of course, you can begin and end the ride anywhere along the route, whether you&#8217;re using your own bike or renting from a shop near one of the stops (<a href=\"https:\/\/itoshima-now.com\/en\/exploring-by-bicycle-rental-guide\/\">check out our report for rental locations<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve carefully selected roads with as little car traffic as possible. For stretches where cars are unavoidable, many of those sections have dedicated bike lanes or wide walking\/cycling paths. This not only keeps things safer but also makes it easy to stop for a break or snap some photos along the way.<\/p>\n<p>This course is designed for everyone to enjoy. That means I chose roads with minimal elevation changes\u2014there are a few gentle slopes, but nothing too challenging. If you\u2019re on an electric-assist bike, you probably won\u2019t even notice them! The full loop takes about two hours of actual riding time, but you\u2019ll definitely want to stop along the way to rest, take photos, explore, or grab a bite to eat. In warmer months, starting later and finishing in time to catch the sunset makes for an unforgettable ride.<\/p>\n<p>Below, you\u2019ll find photos from a recent ride (late November) along this route and highlights of a few great places to stop\u2014but honestly, there are so many more! You\u2019ll be tempted to stop for some browsing, coffee, or shopping\u2014enjoy the retro vibe! Cyclists will love their variety of small rolls, perfect for packing as a snack along the way. The bakery prides itself on health-conscious baking, using only natural ingredients without additives. Once you cross the bridge over the river, Itoshima\u2019s iconic <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/MAxYNM7egAqf4WbH6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mt. Kaya<\/a> comes into view on your left, and soon you\u2019ll find yourself cycling between peaceful rice fields.<\/p>\n<p>Before going too far, we recommend a stop at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ichibandensha.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ichiban Densha<\/a>, a small countryside market specializing in meats but also offering fresh veggies and an excellent selection of bento, onigiri, and takeout meals like gyudon made with their own Itoshima Gyu beef. Kaya is often called Itoshima\u2019s Mt. Fuji. While there\u2019s a hint of resemblance, it\u2019s best to skip the comparison and simply enjoy the stunning view.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another great stop:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shimanoshiki.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shimanoshiki<\/a>, a direct farmer and fisher market. They offer plenty of bento and deli-style options ideal for takeout. Their seafood bowls are a standout\u2014but be aware, they\u2019re very popular. Arrive early or after peak lunch hours. They offer a delicious, reasonably priced buffet, as well as a takeout window serving karaage chicken, either as a side or in a bento. Ride through them and up a gentle hill to the parking area, then walk along the path to the main shrine. I love its compact size and serene, wooded setting. In this photo, you\u2019ll see a real-life married couple (us!) peacefully resolving a &#8220;minor disagreement&#8221; about the route\u2014proof of the shrine\u2019s divine power (just kidding!). This is our easternmost point, located on <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/3xHAFt2MQXSpAeFb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Futamigaura<\/a> Beach, and where we begin to turn back along the coast. <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/P8hPGpGJRw7Hxmrq6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Map<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If time permits, take the turnoff to <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/5DBtosoi4oXUqMbB7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oguchi Beach<\/a>. Pass through another set of shrine gates, and just before the beach, you\u2019ll find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/time.itoshima\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time Cafe<\/a>\u2014perfect for a quick break. The sea views are spectacular, and it\u2019s car-free. The path is narrow, so ride slowly, yield to pedestrians, and stay safe. They offer fillings like mentaiko (spicy cod roe), miso, and takana (mustard greens).
